entrepreneurship program ranked fourth in the nation among 700 college
entrepreneurship programs included in a survey by The Princeton Review and
Entrepreneur magazine.

This is the third
consecutive year that the university, through its College of Business and Public
Administration, has been listed as one of the top schools in the country for

Back to school
Entering his 10th
year as president of the university, Albert Karnig officially kicked off the
2006-07 school year with his annual Convocation address on Sept. 18. President
Karnig highlighted the university’s accomplishments of the past year, outlined
priorities for the new academic year, and honored faculty and staff
achievements.

Prop 1D would fund CSUSB projects
Instructional and laboratory equipment that would help
CSUSB better meet the region’s demand for well-trained teachers and nurses would
be funded if California voters approve Proposition 1D on the November
ballot. If passed, the bond measure would generate nearly $13 million for the
campus to upgrade, renovate and equip facilities.

“Secrets of the Dead” to mark
Fullerton Museum 10-year anniversary
Renowned for its collection of ancient artifacts, the
Robert V. Fullerton Art Museum will celebrate its 10th anniversary with an
Egyptian-themed party on Saturday, October 28, at 7:00 p.m. Guests will
experience exotic food and a “you-are-there” exploration of death and burial in
ancient Egypt.

New computer engineering
degree offered
To help address the rising demand for electrical and
computer engineers in the region, a new bachelor’s of science degree in computer
engineering is being offered by CSUSB beginning this fall. Systems
software engineering “is the fastest growing computer engineering category in
the Inland Empire and San Diego,” says Arturo Concepcion, former chair of the
computer science department.

Volunteer leader elected to
statewide alumni council executive position
Dia Poole (B.A. information management 1990) was elected to
a second term as vice president of governmental relations for the California
State University Alumni Council. As the representative voice of the CSU’s 2
million alumni, the CSUAC works with the Chancellor’s Office and Board of
Trustees to shape CSU policy.

event seeking volunteers
On October 24 and 25 the Alumni Association will
once again partner with the Coyote Bookstore to stage Grad Days, our
award-winning send-off celebration for mid-year graduates.
Volunteers are needed to help with Grad Days preparations (such as stuffing
Grad Packs) as well as at the Grad Days event, congratulating graduates,
welcoming them to the CSUSB alumni family and promoting Grad Pack sales.

Classic set for Nov. 6
Registration is underway for the 11th annual
Dave Stockton Coyote Classic Benefit Golf Tournament, presented by Coussoulis
Development and Crest Chevrolet. The event is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 6, at
the PGA of Southern California at Oak Valley in Beaumont.

Men’s basketball opens Nov.
15 at Arizona State
The men’s basketball team will take on Pac 10 member
Arizona State University Nov. 15 in Tempe, AZ, to kick off the 2006-07 season.
Unlike exhibition games played in recent years against the likes of USC, Loyola
Marymount and San Diego State, this game counts.

Nick Cataldo '77
Nicholas
Cataldo (B.A. psychology and social science 1977, M.A. special education 1983)
will teach a one-day course, A Sojourn Through the San Bernardino Valley:
1776 to the Present, through the university’s
College of Extended
Learning (CEL).
A local
historian and author of numerous articles and books pertaining to the history of
the Cajon Pass and the San Bernardino Valley, Nick’s class will include a
walking tour to historic sites associated with the arrival of the Spanish
explorers, missionary priests, rancheros, citrus growers, the railroads and the
military. The course is offered Saturday, October 7. Children ages 7 and
