President Albert Karnig was among six top Inland Empire professionals hailed
by the Business Press as 2004 Leaders of Distinction. Dr. Karnig was
recognized for his leadership in the public sector.
Since
arriving at CSUSB in 1997, Dr. Karnig has helped make the Cal State campus a
well-known and respected institution regionally and nationally. During his
tenure, the university has seen records in enrollment, freshman
applications, student retention, diversity of faculty and students, grants
and contract funding, fundraising, patent applications and international
program development, as well as the addition of many new campus facilities.

Coyotes ranked No. 7 in NCAA volleyball
pre-season poll
Cal State San Bernardino's women's volleyball team was ranked No. 7 in the
nation among NCAA Division II schools in the annual American Volleyball
Coaches Association pre-season poll released Tuesday.
The Coyotes, three-time defending California Collegiate Athletic Association
champions and defending NCAA Pacific Region champions, finished 2003 ranked
No. 3 in the nation after being ranked No. 3 in the 2003 pre-season poll....read

CSUSB still accepting student applications for Fall 2004
With the approval of a new California state budget that
includes additional funding for higher education, California State University,
San Bernardino and its Palm Desert Campus are accepting student applications for
fall 2004.
First-time freshmen and transfer students with at least 56
transferable semester units, the required four basic skills courses and a
minimum 2.0 grade point average are eligible to apply. The university is also
open to graduate students (including second baccalaureate), credential students

New Dean for College of Business and
Public Administration
Karen Dill Bowerman, former interim dean of the Craig
School of Business at Fresno State University, has been named the new dean of
the College of Business and Public Administration at California State
University, San Bernardino.
Bowerman, who has been at Fresno State since 1979, assumed
the deanship on Aug. 1, said Louis Fernandez, CSUSB provost and vice president

Schwarzenegger appoints CSUSB student to Trustee Board
Cal State San Bernardino junior Corey Jackson, a political science major and
local community activist,
has been appointed by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to the California State
University Board of Trustees.
Jackson, 22, a Democrat from Rialto, becomes the second Cal State San Bernardino
student to be appointed to the CSU Board of Trustees.
He will serve a two-year term as a trustee and becomes the second student
representative on the 24-member board, which sets policy and provides guidance
for the 23-campus system, its 409,000 students and 44,000 faculty members....read

Mountain gala raises over $60,000 for
scholarships
“Of Pinecones and Pineapples,” a tropical-themed gala event at the
Arrowhead Woods home of Neale and Patricia Perkins, raised more than $60,000
July 11 to help support scholarships for mountain community residents attending
Cal State San Bernardino.
The dinner drew over
200 friends and alumni to La Chateau Belle
Maison, the Perkins’ elegant French Normandy-style home in Lake Arrowhead.

Eldon Heaston '90
Eldon Heaston, B.S. health
science 1990, is the deputy Air Pollution Control officer of the Mojave Desert
Air Quality Management District (AQMD) and the Antelope Valley AQMD. Eldon
oversees the day-to-day operations of both districts, including compliance,
regulatory development, engineering, and air monitoring.
Eldon
stays connected to Cal State by serving as an adjunct professor in CSUSB’s Health Sciences department, and
has been instrumental in securing internships for CSUSB students in his
District. Through a Community-University Partnership (C.U.P.) with CSUSB
professor Dr. Lal Mian, his District also donated specialized air-quality
monitoring equipment and valuable scholarship funds. |
