Students recognized CSUSB as the most beautiful campus in the CSU system.

In a survey done by the CSU last year, a higher percentage of students at the university listed CSUSB as “beautiful” than did students at any of the other 22 CSU campuses.

Women's volleyball ranked No. 3 in nation

Cal State San Bernardino's women's volleyball team was clicking on all cylinders Saturday night, rolling to a convincing 3-0 victory over Chico State and moving up to a No. 3 national ranking by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

The Coyotes dispatched the Wildcats 30-18, 30-14 and 30-20, led by senior opposite hitter April Nicolson who had 10 kills, 11 digs and five block assists. With this win the team improved to 7-2 on the season and 2-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

          University to break ground on new science annex                 Formal groundbreaking for the $25 million science annex at Cal State San Bernardino takes place Sept. 23 in the patio area of the Biological Sciences Building. The 10 a.m. ceremony celebrates the start of a project scheduled for completion in December of 2004.

The annex will offer 35,700 square feet of assignable space, but its importance to the College of Natural Sciences, its nine departments and its students is immeasurable, says John Craig, associate dean for the college. “The annex will provide critically needed space for expansion of several departments,” he explains. In particular, the chemistry department will move entirely into the annex and the biology department will get additional, badly needed teaching lab space.

             Work begins on new student housing complex  Construction has begun and is expected to be finished within a year on the newest student apartment complex at Cal State San Bernardino.

Six new buildings will accommodate 480 students, bringing the total capacity for on-campus living to 1,500. The complex will contain four-bedroom, four-bath; two-bedroom, two-bath; and four-bedroom, two-bath units, all with kitchens and hookups for television and the Internet. Each bedroom also will have its own telephone connection, and there will be laundry rooms and study rooms on each floor.

“There’s a need we’re meeting,” said Kathy Marcelino, assistant director for business and conference services at CSUSB. “According to market studies that we’ve done, students want private living areas.”...read the complete story.

CBPA announces new interim Dean

Dr. Norton Marks, who has taught marketing at California State University, San Bernardino’s College of Business and Public Administration since 1990, has been named the college’s interim dean.

Marks will replace Gordon Patzer, who after four years as dean of the college is leaving to become dean of the Walter E. Heller College of Business at Roosevelt University in Chicago, said CSUSB Provost Dr. Louis Fernandez.

“Dr. Marks’ reputation for excellence in teaching and his dedication to his students are well known throughout the campus and in the business community. He brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to this position,” Fernandez said. “I think he is just the person to lead our College of Business and Public Administration through this transition. I am certainly pleased that Dr. Marks has agreed to serve the university in this position...read the complete story.

Chris Ahearn '90, CSUSB Alumni Association lifetime member

Chris Ahearn, B.A. marketing 1990, SC, is vice president of national accounts for Kinko's, Ink., and is responsible for the development and management of national commercial and public sector customers.  Chris joined Kinko's in 2003 from Advanced Business Graphics in Mira Loma, Calif., where he served as vice president of sales and marketing.

Previously, he was vice president of sales, marketing and product development with NowDocs, Inc., a former venture start-up company that develops and sells enterprise software and is now a subsidiary of Taylor Printing.
