CSUSB
No. 1 pick for 25 top local high school grads
Twenty-five of
the brightest graduates from San Bernardino County high schools have
selected CSUSB for their college education. The students, who are ranked
among the top one percent of their high school graduating classes, will each
receive a $20,000 President's Academic Excellence Scholarship.

Literacy
Center begins a new chapter with gift from Watson & Associates
James Watson and
his partners from Watson & Associates, a Seal Beach-based development company,
have contributed $200,000 to help establish the CSUSB Literacy Center. The
center, the only one of its kind in the area, offers one-on-one tutoring to help kids from the region improve their
reading abilities and enhance their opportunities in life. An area for the
center has been designated in the planned $50 million building that will house

Tune
in to Cal State's TV network for local news, weather, sports and more
The university's
Inland California Television Network (ICTN) will expand its weeknight local news
program to include several new offerings. Programs, such as "In the Public
Interest" and "Mind Your Business," will debut this month and are designed to put
a spotlight on social and quality-of-life issues facing the Inland Empire as
well as highlight regional economic development. ICTN can be seen on

Look to Cal State for region's best in visual and
performing arts
As the 2004
academic year at Cal State gets underway, so too does its fall season for
musical concerts, theatrical performances and art exhibits.
From the
diverse First Wednesdays concert series to the delightful fable "Bocon!" to
permanent and traveling exhibits in the Robert V. Fullerton Art Museum,
alumni and friends will find a rich offering of cultural and artistic events
and programs at Cal State.

Alumni get first look at new Palm Desert Campus building
Coachella Valley area alumni and their guests are invited to a November 13 sneak
preview of the Indian Wells Center for Educational Excellence, the newest
building at CSUSB’s Palm Desert Campus. Student-guided building tours,
refreshments, opportunities to reconnect with former classmates and professors,
and a Cal State update from President Karnig are included in the festivities.

Coyote hoopsters
reloaded and ready to play
There is one thing that Cal State San Bernardino men’s basketball coach Jeff
Oliver can say with certainty when talking about the 2004-05 Coyotes. They
look good on paper.
Cal State, the
five-time defending California Collegiate Athletic Association champion, began
practice October 15 with almost a completely different squad than the one that went
26-3 and advanced to NCAA Division II West Regional semifinals. Only three
players on the roster - wing players Yosef Yaisrael and Darnell Graham and post

Juan Delgado '89
Juan Delgado, B.A. English 1989, has been
appointed interim chair of CSUSB's Department of Communication Studies.
Juan also is a professor in the English Department, and he previously served as assistant to the Provost for special projects.
Juan
is in his second term as secretary for the American
Association Education Hispanic Caucus, and he has
received critical acclaim for his latest book of poems, A Rush of
