CSUSB’s all-American outside hitter Brianna
“Brie” Harris was chosen the 2004 American Volleyball Coaches Association/NCAA
Division II women’s volleyball “Player of the Year.” Harris led the Coyotes to
their second straight NCAA Pacific Region championship, where she turned in a
NCAA Division II tournament record 45 kills.

Alumni Association welcomed another 750 students into the alumni family at the
University’s winter commencement ceremonies, held Saturday, December 11, in
Coussoulis Arena. The ceremonies marked the second year that the campus has
held a mid-year graduation for students completing their degree requirements

SB provides economic boost to Inland region
CSUSB contributes
more than $500 million in expenditures to California’s economy each year, while
also supporting more than 10,000 California jobs and generating more than $28
million in state taxes, according to a report commissioned by the California
State University. The report also found that CSUSB alumni earnings generate

Former
Coyote Hoopster now "World Famous" Globetrotter
Former Cal State San Bernardino basketball player Robert Banks, whose career at
Cal State was hampered by leg problems, is now a part of the world-famous Harlem
Globetrotters. Banks, 26, was "discovered" by a scout for the
Globetrotters while playing in a Summer Pro League at Long Beach State. Within a
few weeks he was signed and accompanied the Globetrotters on a one-week,
four-game tour of the Far East, playing games in Hong Kong and Macao.

Environmental EXPO
gets top honor from Gov. Schwarzenegger
Environmental
EXPO, the University’s annual environmental education festival, earned
California’s highest and most prestigious environmental honor from Gov.
Schawarzenegger. Founded and led by Professor Darleen Stoner, CSUSB’s
Environmental EXPO was recognized for its exceptional leadership in building

"Rebuilding"
year turns into championship season for Women's Volleyball
CSUSB’s women’s volleyball team, in what was billed as a “rebuilding” year,
overcame the odds this season, earning an impressive 27-4 record, a second
straight regional championship, and trip to Florida for a shot at the national
championship. Boosted by senior all-Americans Brie Harris and Cathleen Price,
the Coyotes also led the California Collegiate Athletic Conference in hitting
percentage as well as kills, assists and blocks per game.

chair receives Pioneer Award from local NAACP
Kathryn Ervin,
chair of the university’s Theatre Arts Department, was honored by the San
Bernardino branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored
People with its Pioneer Award. Ervin, a member of the CSUSB faculty since 1989,
was recognized for her leadership involvement in promoting arts in the
community.

Mark
Seay '04
Mark Seay, the former San Diego Chargers
wide receiver, was among 750 CSUSB students who participated in the winter
Commencement ceremonies on December 11. Seay, who earned his B.A. in criminal
justice, received his diploma from Jack Brown, chairman of the board and CEO of
Stater Bros. Markets, where Seay works as a community relations representative.
A San
Bernardino High School graduate and three-sport standout, Seay overcame the odds
after losing a kidney to a gunshot wound, proving himself in the National
Football League. Seay’s NFL career began in 1993 and included playing for the
Chargers and Philadelphia Eagles. In 1994, as a member of the AFC champion
Chargers, Seay led the team in receiving yards at Super Bowl XXXVI.
Seay
retired from the NFL in 1999. In his current position with Stater Bros., Seay
delivers his personal message of perseverance to schools, church groups and
service organizations throughout the communities served by Stater Bros. |
