CSUSB
selected
to
host
regional
theatre
festival
The
Region
VIII
Kennedy
Center-American
College
Theatre
Festival
has
selected
Cal
State
San
Bernardino
as
the
site
for
the
renowned
program’s
2004
event.
Scheduled
for
Feb.
10-15,
2004,
the
festival
will
bring
to
town
more
than
1,000
students
and
visitors
from
throughout
the
western
United
States.
When
Region
VIII
officials
considered
the
university
as
a
possible
festival
site,
they
expressed
concern
about
the
smaller
theatre
facilities
at
Cal
State.
But
KC-ACTF
became
much
more
interested
after
the
university’s
theatre
department
proposed
involving
the
community
of
San
Bernardino.
Over
the
past
couple
of
years
the
Region
VIII
board
has
made
the
effort
to
broaden
the
students’
experience
and
the
appeal
of
the
festival
itself.
“When
you
take
the
festival
off-campus
you
bring
an
honesty
to
the
shows
that’s
hard
to
duplicate
on
a
campus,”
said
Ken
Gray,
chair
for
Region
VIII.
“So
if
we
can
get
out
into
the
community
and
have
an
audience
that
is
not
just
the
parents
or
an
audience
that
will
come
in
thinking,
‘Oh,
we
have
to
be
gentle
on
these
students,
these
are
just
college
students,’
then
students
get
a
better
sense
of
the
quality
of
their
performance”...read
