NCAA
Volleyball
Championship

Bernardino
was
selected
Sunday
as
the
host
for
the
2003
NCAA
Division
II
National
Volleyball
Championship
Tournament
on
Dec.
4-6.
The
eight
teams
in
the
tournament
will
be
playing
in
the
4,041-seat
Coussoulis
Arena,
site
of
past
regional
tournaments
in
volleyball
and
men’s
basketball.
CSUSB
is
hosting
a
national
championship
event
for
the
first
time
in
school
history.

Ford
Drives
Coyotes
to
First
Regional
Volleyball
Title
The
Coyotes
are
the
champions!
--
regional
champions,
that
is,
following
Saturday
night's
convincing
3-0
victory
over
Hawaii
Pacific
University
before
257
mostly
partisan
Cal
State
San
Bernardino
fans
in
UC
San
Diego's
RIMAC
Arena.
After
three
years
of
being
in
the
regional
finals
and
losing,
the
Coyotes
were
on
a
mission
Saturday
night
to
do
what
the
seniors
dreamed
of
doing
when
they
first
stepped
on
the
court
in
2000
--
advance
to
the
national
championship
tournament
and
then
win
it.
Two-time
All-American
Kim
Ford
literally
spiked
the
Sea
Warriors
into
submission
with
20
kills,
a
match
high,
and
15
digs
to
go
with
one
solo
block
and
four
block
assists.
She
hit
.389
in
the
process
with
only
six
errors
in
36

Kim
Morohunfola
has
been
named
the
2003
California
Collegiate
Athletic
Association
Women's
Volleyball
Most
Valuable
Player
of
the
Year,
as
selected
by
the
league
head
coaches.
CAL
STATE
BAKERSFIELD's
John
Price
received
CCAA
Coach
of
the
Year
honors,
and
UC
DAVIS
middle
blocker
Nicole
Read
received
CCAA
Freshman
of
the
Year.
Coaches
also
selected
the
All-CCAA
First
and
Second
Teams.
Morohunfola,
a
senior
from
Upland,
finished
the
regular
season
as
the
CCAA
leader
in
hitting
percentage
(.429),
ranked
3rd
in
blocks
per
game
(1.09)
and
7th
in
kills
per
game
(3.88)
to
lead
the
Coyotes
to
their
third
straight
CCAA
Championship
and
fourth
straight
NCAA
postseason
appearance.
