Senator Boxer to seek
federal support for Palm Desert Campus programs
U.S.
Senator Barbara Boxer visited CSUSB’s Palm Desert Campus on Monday, praising the
public-private partnership that raised contributions from local citizens,
foundations and individuals to build the permanent branch campus. “I’m going to
do whatever I can to help you at the federal level,” Boxer offered, referring
specifically to a grant for the campus’ nursing program, “But that’s just the
start.”

Call for Nominations
for Alumni Awards of Distinction
The CSUSB Alumni
Association is accepting nominations for its 2005 Alumni Awards of Distinction.
If you know of former CSUSB students who have achieved success in their
professions or who have made extraordinary contributions to their alma mater,
you’re encouraged to nominate those individuals by June 31, 2005. Awards will
be bestowed at an awards reception and ceremony set for Saturday, November 5,
2005.

Pete Fairchild earns
prestigious award
English professor
B.H. “Pete” Fairchild received the 2004 Rebekah Johnson Bobbitt National Prize
for Poetry for his book “Early Occult Memory Systems of the Lower Midwest.” The
biennial $10,000 prize recognizes the most distinguished book of poetry written
by an American and published during the preceding two years.

Summer session starts June 22
CSUSB students can
accelerate their progress toward graduation through summer classes at the San
Bernardino and Palm Desert campuses. The university will offer three sessions
this summer, beginning June 22, and will feature an assortment of lower
division, upper division and graduate courses, in addition to several online and
Web-based instruction courses.

Who’s Who?
Alumni, faculty and staff from Cal State’s early years were on campus May 14 to
help identify the faces and happenings in photos from the campus archives.
Sponsored by the CSUSB Retirees' Association and the CSUSB Alumni Association,
the event featured a memorabilia display, which included items from the Class of
’67 time capsule, and a surprise teleconference with founding President John Pfau.

alumni and friends to the 4th Annual Accounting Alumni

College of Extended Learning Summer Bulletins now
available
Registrations are now being accepted for summer classes at the College of
Extended Learning. Alumni Association members, who can receive a 10% discount on
registration fees, may register online at

education seminars, professional development courses for educators, continuing

Infant/Toddler Laboratory School
opens
The Institute of Child Development and Family Relations
opened its Infant/Toddler Laboratory School in March, serving children three
months to three years old, while also providing a nursery school setting for
undergraduate and graduate psychology students specializing in child
development. The center is located on the first floor of the new College of
Social and Behavioral Sciences building.

Lou Monville '94
Lou Monville (B.A.
communications 1994) was appointed by Governor Schwarzenegger to the California
Community Colleges Board of Governors. Lou is the vice president for O’Reilly
Public Relations in Riverside. From 1996 to 1998 he directed the Inland Empire
Office of the Governor.
Lou is a member of the CSUSB Alumni Association Board
of Directors and the University Advisory Board, and he chairs the Greater
Riverside Chamber of Commerce. |
