PDC delivers TLC
Twenty-five registered
nurses made up the first graduating class of the Palm Desert Campus’ bachelor’s
of science in nursing program, beginning the stream of highly trained nurses for
residents of the Coachella Valley region. The program is supported with grants
from all three of the Valley’s hospitals—Desert Regional Medical Center,
Eisenhower Medical Center and John F. Kennedy Hospital, as well as the Desert
Healthcare District. |

Cal State San
Bernardino concluded its 2006-2007 academic year by honoring its spring
graduating class of 2007 with commencement ceremonies over a three-day period
from June 15-17.

37th Annual Student Art Exhibition runs
through July 28
The
works of Cal State San Bernardino student artists are now on exhibit at the
Robert V. Fullerton Art Museum, commencing the 37th Annual Student Art
Exhibition. The show features work in painting, drawing, photography,
printmaking, sculpture, glass, ceramics, wood and furniture design, graphic
design and new genres.

Free Summer Wednesday concerts
return to CSUSB
Wednesday evenings will sizzle at Cal State San Bernardino again this July when
the university hosts its popular free Summer Wednesday concert series, beginning
July 11. Picnic baskets,
lawn chairs and blankets are all part of the atmosphere that makes CSUSB’s
summer concert series a must-attend event.

Congrats to Alumni Scholars
grads!
The Alumni Association
celebrated the graduation of two of its Alumni Scholars—Dayna Lippe (B.A.
marketing) and Andre Castillo (B.A. political science)—and congratulated
Tom
Lee, who completed his master’s in computer science in December, on his
selection as the 2007 Outstanding Graduate Student for the College of Natural
Sciences.

Alumni and students network at Accounting and Finance
reception
The Department of Accounting
and Finance, together with the CSUSB Alumni Association, hosted the 6th
annual Accounting and Finance Alumni Reception on May 30, at the San
Bernardino Hilton. The reception was themed “Celebrating Our Students” and
included presentations from university administrators and current students, as
well as featuring alumni speakers Paul Mata (B.A. finance 1987) and
Todd Landry (B.S. accounting 1988).

Sweeney named interim athletic director
Longtime Cal State San Bernardino professor
Dwight Sweeney will serve as the university's interim athletic director
during the search for a permanent director following the recent resignation of
Nancy Simpson. The university hopes to have a full-time athletic director
in place by September.

Harris, Webster, Wilt get top honors at
all-sports dinner
Basketball
players Prentice Harris (Upland) and Vanessa Wilt (Hesperia) along
with golfer Gene Webster (San Bernardino) received the top awards as Cal
State San Bernardino's Athletic Department honored its top student-athletes May

The NCAA West Region champion Cal State San Bernardino men's basketball team and
coaching staff will host three summer camps for youth this coming summer while
the highly-successful women's volleyball team and coaches will host one week

Velarde '02
Craig "Kico"Velarde (B.A.
communications studies 2002) co-produced and served as post-production
supervisor for
PVC-1,
a film inspired by the true story of an innocent woman’s struggle for survival
after she is fitted with a collar-bomb by Colombian kidnappers. The movie
premiered at the Directors' Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival 2007 and was
nominated for the Camera d'Or Award.
PVC-1
is revolutionary in that it
was shot in one, 85-minute continuous take. The movie's success has been
reported on by Variety magazine and the Hollywood Reporter.

In 2003, Craig co-founded an entertainment networking & education
company called TotalAXIS with producer Benjamin Torres. Upon the success of this
venture, he then launched NewBandTV, the country’s first online music television
network for independent music. With his production experience and extensive
knowledge of the cutting-edge technology, Apple Inc. signed him as a
"creative" where he has been certified in the Apple Pro Apps.
Craig also is the owner of
45 East
- a full service media company specializing in production and post production of
television and film projects, as well as technical and creative services.
