Fullerton Art Museum was included in
Westways Magazine's
"Things to See On Campus"
in December. The Museum's collection of Egyptian antiquities was mentioned,
as well as contemporary exhibits by Andy Warhol and Robert Rauschenberg.

Chemical
Sciences Building opens
The campus community gathered earlier this month to
celebrate the opening of the new Chemical Sciences Building with a
ribbon-cutting ceremony. The 37,500 square-foot facility houses high-tech
classrooms and labs, as well as a natural sciences museum
that features
teaching-oriented displays such as fossils, minerals and collections of animal
and plant specimens.

Middle
school students test payload for Lunar Rocket and Rover
Students at Oak Middle School in
Los Alamitos have been spending their science periods putting together a
scientific payload that will be launched from Cape Canaveral in February. The
rocket launch is part of an advanced technology program from CSUSB and its
Office of Technology Transfer and Commercialization.

Cal State SB
helps ease nursing shortage
A new four-year degree nursing program at the Palm Desert
Campus and a $4 million donation from Riverside Community Hospital are helping
CSUSB train more nurses and meet the increasing demand for nurses in the region
and state.

Schnarre
named 2006 Arrowhead Distinguished Executive Officer
George H. Schnarre, long-time
area realtor, is this year’s Arrowhead Distinguished Executive Officer.
The College of Business and Public Administration will honor George at its
annual awards luncheon on March 7. The Arrowhead Distinguished Executive
Officer’s award is bestowed annually to top business leaders from the Inland
Empire.

Entrepreneurial
leaders of tomorrow
With initial funding of $1.3
million from the U.S. Army Research Laboratory, CSUSB’s nationally-ranked Inland
Empire Center for Entrepreneurship launched its Integrated Technology Transfer
Network (ITTN) fellows program, an intensive nine-month program designed to
train minority science students to take the lead in developing innovative
solutions to pressing government and societal problems.

San Bernardino again named 'Publisher's Pick' by Hispanic Outlook Magazine
California State University, San Bernardino’s continuing commitment to diversity
in higher education was recognized once again by Hispanic Outlook in Education
magazine, which named CSUSB one of its "Publisher’s Picks" for 2005.
Federally acclaimed as a Hispanic Serving Institution, Cal State San Bernardino
offers two concentrations and a minor in the field of Chicano/Latino studies
that focus on the impact of Chicanos/Latinos in the United States.

Hobnobbing and Hoops recap
The CSUSB Alumni Association partnered with the College of
Business and Public Administration's Business Alliance to host a member
appreciation event January 20 at the Coussoulis Arena. Over 120 guests
attended the pre-game reception, and then cheered the Coyote men’s basketball
team on to a victory over rival Cal Poly Pomona. Click

Association to honor former
student leaders during 40th anniversary
Former student leaders who
served as officers in Associated Students, the Student Union Board of Directors,
and student organizations will be honored on Saturday, May 6, at a tribute
brunch. Hosted by the CSUSB Alumni Association, the event is intended to
recognize the unique contributions of alumni who served in key student
leadership positions over the university’s 40-year history.

Coyotes Hand Sonoma State Men First CCAA Loss, 73-64 in OT
Cal State San Bernardino outscored Sonoma State 9-0 in the final minute of
overtime Saturday night to hand the Seawolves their first CCAA conference loss,
73-64, before a hostile crowd in Seawolf Gym. The win boosted the Coyotes
to 9-7 on the season and 8-2 in the CCAA while the loss dropped Sonoma State,
ranked No. 4 in the West Region, to 11-5 overall and 9-1 in the CCAA. The
Seawolves now cling to a one-game lead over the Coyotes and Cal State
Bakersfield.

44 Coyote athletes earn quarterly academic
honors
Forty-four Cal State San Bernardino student-athletes earned "Leader of the
Pack" awards for the Fall Quarter by earning grade point averages of 3.4 or
better.
The women's cross country team retained the "Cody
Coyote Award", presented to the team with the highest collective grade point
average for the quarter with a combined GPA of 3.67 out of 4.0.

Patti Smith '77
Patricia A. Smith (B.S. nursing 1977, M.A. special health administration
1982) is the new director of the Student Health and Psychological Center at
CSUSB.
Patti,
who also has a doctorate degree in public health, previously served as the
director of health services at San Bernardino Valley College, where she also was
an associate professor of health services. Patti also taught at Riverside Community College
and Crafton Hills College, and she was a staff R.N. at Mountains Community
Hospital in Lake Arrowhead. |
