Sam Maloof, world-renowned master woodworker, will celebrate his 92nd
birthday at CSUSB’s
Robert V. Fullerton Art Museum with a
preview of his new exhibit and a gift to the university. He’s donated one
of his walnut rocking chairs, which will be sold in a live auction.
Proceeds will establish the Sam and Beverly Maloof Art Scholarship at
CSUSB and will create a ceramics acquisition fund for the Fullerton Museum.

CSU Trustees oppose Prop 92
Among the ballot propositions
that will go before California voters on Feb. 5, Prop 92, the Community College
Initiative, could impact CSUSB and other CSU campuses. Trustees of the CSU have
taken a formal position in opposition to Prop 92, saying it will further erode
the system’s state-funded budget.

Cal State San Bernardino and six other
California State University campuses will now accept freshman applications
until Saturday, March 1. The other 16 CSU campuses will continue to observe
a Feb.1 end-date for freshman applications.

Alumni Association's EOP Alumni Chapter held a holiday party in December for
students in the university's foster youth program. Each student received a
gift bag including a CSUSB sweatshirt/t-shirt combo and other items.

Athletics, city schools join hands in mentor program
CSUSB and the San Bernardino City Unified School
District have united their efforts through CAMP – Coyote Athletics Mentoring
Partnership – a new enterprise that both entities feel will benefit elementary
and middle school students as well as collegiate student-athletes.

Storm Cowell '03
Betty “Storm” Cowell, B.A. psychology 2003,
was sworn in as Postmaster of the Highland Post Office on January 18, 2008. In
her new position, she will manage the office’s 51 employees and 27 carrier
routes, and will prepare to move the operation to a new facility scheduled for
completion next year.
Storm has been working with the postal service
since 1986 and plans to remain postmaster of the Highland Office until she
retires. |
