State University Wang Family Excellence Award. The award recognizes exemplary

looks back on 40 years, ahead at future
Students, faculty and
benefactors celebrated Cal State San Bernardino's 40th anniversary at a gala May
6 in the university's newly opened Santos Manuel Student Union. The black-tie
event included video segments detailing the school's growth from a 180-student
liberal arts campus in 1965 to 17,000 students in 70 different academic majors
today.

Former reporter and Taliban hostage
to speak at CSUSB June 1
Former reporter Yvonne Ridley, who was
captured by the Taliban while covering the war in Afghanistan and later
converted to Islam, will speak about her experiences during her June 1
appearance at Cal State San Bernardino.

Rizzo received a three-year appointment as editor of the "Adapted Physical
Activity Quarterly," a publication that provides the latest in scholarly

New theatre master's degree
program opens new ways to teach
A new
theatre master's degree - only
the third such degree program in the California State University system - will
be offered beginning this fall at Cal State San Bernardino.

New road provides additional
access to Cal State San Bernardino
Campus Parkway, the new public roadway
providing an alternate access route to and from Cal State San Bernardino, is now
open. The street is part of the new housing tract along Northpark that is being
developed by Watson and Associates.

Cal
State San Bernardino offers summer courses to regular and visiting students
California State University, San
Bernardino will begin its 2006 summer quarter of courses on June 21, with three
different sessions to fit busy summer calendars. Non-CSUSB students can gain
access to summer courses easily and pay the same rate as regular CSUSB
students.

The CSU has pledged to work with Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to help military
men and women who are exiting the service and are making the transition to college. The
partnership will seek to work to promote education opportunities to veterans
who are either California residents or are stationed in California at the
time they leave the military.

Harry Belafonte charmed, inspired and
continually challenged an audience of more than 500 people many of them Cal
State San Bernardino students, to make their world a better place during the
inaugural presentation of the Santos Manuel Student Union Lecture Series at the
university’s Santos Manuel Student Union.

Coyote baseball standout is playing pro baseball with Inland Empire 66ers
Inland
Empire 66er catcher Brian Schweiger is trying to pursue his dream of making it
to the big leagues in front of his hometown crowd. Schweiger, who played three
years of college baseball at Cal State San Bernardino, has found himself with
the Seattle Mariners Class Single A affiliate, just miles from where he grew up.

Coyotes finish 7th in NCAA Division II Golf Championship
Cal State San Bernardino saved its
best team effort for the final round, closing with a 14-over-par 294 Friday (May
19) to earn a tie for seventh place in the NCAA Division II Men's Golf
Championship. Ryan Plummer finished sixth in field of 105 golfers.

The Class of 1973 (M.A. education)

Cal
State’s first students to graduate with master’s degrees in education in
1973 were honored on May 19 at the College of Education’s 17th
Annual Outstanding Student Recognition Dinner.
Sue
(Orrock) Brown (seated), MA education 1973, Daniel Carrasco, Sr. (right), BA
Spanish 1968 and MA education 1973, and Pete Carrasco (left), BA Spanish
1969 and MA education 1973, were among the original six members of the Class
of 1973 who joined Dean Patricia Arlin and other special guests at the
event.
All
three alumni enjoyed distinguished careers in K-12 education, retiring as
administrators. The Alumni Association presented each honoree with a
commemorative 40th anniversary paperweight, and Danny Carrasco
addressed the students and faculty at the dinner.
